Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny was one of the millions of people heartbroken by the sudden death of NBA basketball star, Kobe Bryant, who passed away on January 26. Many people from all over the world, from celebrities to basketball fans, paid tribute to Bryant in their own different way. Bad Bunny paid his respects with a touching song, “6 rings.”

Bad Bunny released the song on Soundcloud only one day after Bryant’s death. The song title is a tribute to Bryant’s “6 rings”, which refers to his 5 NBA championship rings with the Los Angeles Lakers and his marriage to Vanessa Bryant.

The song begins with an audio sample from the 2006 game where Bryant scored 81 points, the 2nd most points to be scored in just one game by an NBA player. The emotional song then continues with Bad Bunny expressing how much of an inspiration Bryant was for him. He sings about the first time he ever watched Bryant play and the excitement he felt watching him.

He then goes on to sing about everything he learned from his role model such as that everything should be done with passion. He also says Bryant showed him that the number 13 isn’t bad luck like many says. The reason for this is because Bryant was the thirteenth pick in the 1996 NBA draft and despite being selected as the “unlucky” number, he turned out to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Bad Bunny then goes on to congratulate Bryant for his six rings, which refers to his 5 NBA championship rings won in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, and 2010. The 6th ring is his marriage to Vanessa Bryant that gave him his four daughters, Natalia, Gianna, Bianka, and Capri.

In a sad Instagram post that Bad Bunny posted the day Bryant passed, the singer expressed how torn he was over his death. He reminisced over being a young boy, watching Bryant play basketball. After watching him play once, he knew that he would forever be his favorite basketball player.
Bryant was a hero for millions all over the world. He was a role model that helped the 25-year-old singer in becoming the grand musician he is today.
