The coronavirus pandemic that broke out in the beginning of the year in Wuhan, China is now becoming a serious threat to the United States. On Tuesday, February 25, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that there is a high chance of the coronavirus spreading to the U.S and causing an outbreak.
The reason this is becoming a big possibility is because the virus has been spreading to many more countries including South Korea and Italy. Due to this, it may be difficult to contain the virus from coming into the country.
Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the head of the CDC, said, “It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen in this country anymore but a question of when this will happen.”
So far, the coronavirus has infected more than 80,000 people and the death toll is at about 2,700 and all of this happened in less than two months.
There has only been less than 50 cases of the virus detected in the U.S, but officials are warning communities to prepare for an outbreak that could cause a severe “disruption” to everyday life.
