Call of duty cold war alpha promises a whole new game

On September 18th-September 20th Playstation 4 players had the chance to play the Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War Alpha which had many mixed reviews. Many players who had the chance to play the game had mixed opinions on the game, about 50% of the players liked the game and the other 50% disliked the game. During the alpha there were 5 maps which were Miami, Moscow, Satellite, Crossroads, and Armada. In Miami, Moscow, and Satellite players had the chance to play some 6v6 game modes such as domination, hardpoint, team deathmatch, and kill confirmed. If you wanted to play 12v12 you were allowed to play two other maps which were Crossroads, a large map in the snow and Armada which was made up of two giant battleships and a couple of other smaller ships. In these two maps you were allowed to ride vehicles such as tanks, jet skis, and boats so that players could travel around the map quicker. Some of the guns that were in the game were the xm4, mp5, ak-47u, M16, LW3-Tundra, Gallo SA12, and the 1911. If you played Call of Duty Modern Warfare you would know that the XM4 which was known as the M4A1 and the MP5 which had the same name were two of the most used weapons in the game because of how good they were and in this game it seems like these two weapons are still as good as ever.

To reward good players there were a couple of scorestreaks which players were able to obtain by getting a large amount of kills. Normally in previous Call of Duty games to be able to obtain your scorestreaks you had to get a certain amount of kills without dying, but in Cold War you will earn scorestreaks by just getting a certain amount of kills and if you die your scorestreak progress doesn’t reset meaning if you wanted to obtain a scorestreak that required you to get 10 kills in a row and you died on your 9th kill all you would have to do is get another kill when you spawn in and you would obtain that certain scorestreak. There is a 90 second cool down for your scorestreaks which balances it out. The perks in Cold War are perks that have been seen in previous Call of Duty games. For perk #1 you have the choice of engineer, tactical mask, and flak jacket. For perk #2 you have the choice of scavenger, quartermaster, and tracker. Lastly for perk #3 you have the choice of cold blooded, ghost, and ninja. There are also wildcards that players are allowed to equip which are Danger Close, Law Breaker, Gunfighter, and Perk Greed. These 4 wildcards will benefit all players and they all have different uses which means that players should choose wisely which wildcard they want to equip.

The gaming community had some things to say about the game. Many youtubers spoke about the game, but two examples are TheKoreanSavage and Birdman who both spoke on how they disliked Skill Based Matchmaking which is when you play against players of similar skill to yours. They both stated along with other youtubers that “skilled based matchmaking made the game not fun”.
We asked two seniors at El Rancho High School how they felt about the game and they both gave their honest opinions.

Edgar Tayun, a senior who plays a lot of video games especially Call of Duty Modern Warfare said “The game is complete trash”. During his interview he stated that the guns in the game felt unbalanced because most of the guns had no recoil and because they all had a crazy amount of range which made the game very boring.

Jorge Navarro, a senior who also plays many video games especially the Call of Duty franchise said “The game is a 9/10 and it will be better when the full game comes out”. When being asked why he enjoyed the game he said that the game was very fun and that it reminded him of older Call of Duty games which made it even better in his opinion.

Now, in my opinion the game was a 7/10 for a couple of reasons. First off the sniping in the game felt
very weird at first but after playing a couple of games you get used to it and it feels amazing which a lot of people can agree on. The movement felt pretty good and overall it ran really smoothly. The 3 maps in the game were Moscow, Miami, and Satellite. Out of all of these 3 maps Satellite was my favorite because it was a very open map in the desert which made it a perfect map for sniping. Miami and Moscow were both maps for medium range to close combat fights which was good for every other gun but a sniper. Crossroads and Armada which were two big maps for the 12v12 game modes felt very boring in my opinion. Crossroads was an okay map but it was so big that if you didn’t have a vehicle you had to walk across the whole map to be able to find an enemy. Armada was also very big and to find someone you would have to travel to the other ship in which you could take a vehicle there or you could zipline there. The problem about Armada was that most of the time people would just sit at the zipline and wait for you to cross it so you would immediately die. In my opinion these maps would be so much better if there were less spots for people to camp in which has been a problem in Call of Duty games for a long time, but I know that the creators of the game have almost no control over this. The only thing that I disliked about the game was the guns. For example, I felt that all the guns kind of felt the same for the fact that they all had no recoil and they all had a crazy amount of range. This was honestly the only downside to the game for me which made it feel a bit repetitive because everyone would use assault rifles and smgs and they were able to shoot me from across the map with no problem. I was able to play the game for 1-2 hours but after that I would get a bit tired of the game.

For now all we can do is wait for the beta to come out on Playstation 4 on October 8th for players who pre-ordered the game and on October 10th it will be free for every Playstation 4 player. Xbox and PC players will have to wait until October 15th if they pre-ordered the game and on October 17th the game will be free to everyone. Hopefully the beta will play better than the Alpha and hopefully we get more news about the full game which is set to release on November 13th.
