Bandai Namco released a new Dragon Ball Z game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Originally titled Project Z, Kakarot is a retelling of the entire Dragon Ball Z series. With a total of 291 episodes, 13 movies, and 2 television specials, the series is already a week-long binge watch.

Fans got a special treat for the game when Bandai Namco released the Dragon Ball Z Cha-La-Head-Cha-La opening in the game's style. This game is a single-player RPG. It is still unknown if it will become a multiplayer game but until further notice, players can play this game and relive the entire anime with some additional cutscenes that add to the story.

For any fans who haven’t watched the original anime can enjoy this game as it is just the entire story as you play as the main character. This game does a really good job of retelling the entire story which many previous Dragon Ball games lacked poorly. Despite every Dragon Ball game just being the same story over and over again, this game does it very well. Some scenes add to the story but some important scenes have been cut from the original story for the game.

The beginning of the game is a tutorial for the game and they do it in such an amazing way. We see Gohan walk up to his father Goku, also known as Kakarot, who is sitting at the edge of a cliff waiting for Piccolo to get a rematch. This starts the tutorial in such an unusual way and it is just fantastic. Piccolo was originally Goku’s rival before being overshadowed by Vegeta. Seeing the two go head to head in their rematch was just something all the fans needed since we never got to see their rematch at all.

The gameplay itself is pretty good, the voice actors are the same only Kid and Teen Gohan’s voice, as well as Frieza’s voice, was changed to the Kai voice actors. The game has its cons as well. There have been reports of missing sound effects, a repetitive dialog for side quests, and some glitches. Aside from that, the graphics and animation are amazing.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is the perfect game for fans of the anime and RPG gamers. The game right now is $59.99 to buy a physical copy and online. The game is roughly 35 to 40 hours to finish the main story. If you want to complete the entire game including side quests, it would take about 80 to 100 hours. So far, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is the best game in 2020.
