El Rancho High School’s Chapter of the National Honor Society has started up once again with advisor, Mr. Phan. National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization that was created to recognize outstanding high school students for their demonstrations of scholar, service, leadership, and character. The El Rancho Chapter of NHS has started up once again due to the guidance of its’ new advisor, Mr. Phan. Mr. Phan is a new United States History teacher at ERHS. He says, “ I am looking forward to grow as a new teacher and am very much excited to be a Don.” Phan “was chosen by administration [because of his] high interest of becoming a club adviser, since [he] was a member of NHS once before. ” He quickly took the opportunity as he “wanted to use what [he] had learned [as a member of NHS] to continue the traditions of National Honor Society here at El Rancho High School.” “My goal for NHS here at El Rancho is to instill the four pillars of NHS to students: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service” said Phan. “I want student members to learn and demonstrate all four [pillars] by the time they graduate high school [and] I also want to give valuable insight about college and scholarships offered” he continued. This year, NHS has 30 members from the junior and senior class. The board members include: President, Yulong Zhang, 11, Vice President, Senthaly Vasquez, 11, Event Coordinators, Sophia Lugo, 11, and Jennifer Hernandez, 11, Treasurers, Anahi Mendoza, 11, and, Nicholas Doucet, 11.
NHS Board Members are planning on carrying out Mr. Phan’s goal by hosting “college field trips and community service events to give back to the community here at El Rancho High School.” Unfortunately, NHS is not taking any more members for this school year. But for more details on how to join next year, visit Mr. Phan in R-2 or follow the NHS twitter account @NHSElRancho.
