Shane Dawson's docuseries dive deep

By Grecia Haro-Flores

Shane Dawson is proving that Youtube is much more than an outlet for slime and fidget spinners. Since 2018, Dawson has created 40-50 minute long episodes that focus on the many aspects of controversial youtubers.

In his recent docuseries, Dawson dived into the mind of Jake Paul. Within this eight-part web series, Dawson touched on obscure topics involving Paul’s past and present.

On the first episode of “The Mind of Jake Paul,” published on September 25, Dawson introduced the series and explained his intentions. In his video he said, “Youtubers have to have some kind of personality disorder, right? To do what we do - putting ourselves on camera all the time.” In fact, Dawson questioned if Paul was a possible sociopath.

Despite his attempt to avoid creating controversy, Dawson received large amounts of backlash for the way he was treated personality disorders. This lead him to posting an apology video.

The second episode, “The Dark Side of Jake Paul,” was released two days later. In this episode, Dawson discussed the characteristics of a sociopath with licensed marriage and family counselor, Kati Morton.

The research continued in the third video, “The Family of Jake Paul.” Dawson watched the videos of the Paul Family - Jake Paul, Logan Paul, Greg Paul, and Pamela Stepnick - and analyzed them closely.

It’s not until the fifth part of the series titled, “The World of Jake Paul,” when Paul finally makes an appearance. In this episode, the viewers are given a tour of the Team 10 house and learn more about the

 infamous group.

“I’d say like everyone who has left has used us,” says Paul about previous Team 10 members. He continued to add by saying, “I don’t think they realized that they used us, but when these people come into Team 10, I give them everything.”

But like every story, there’s always another side. Nearing the docuseries finale, Dawson interviewed Paul’s ex-girlfriend, Alissa Violet, in “The Ex-Girlfriend of Jake Paul.” Violet, being a previous Team 10 member, revealed juicy secrets including how her and Paul never actually dated.

In the eye-opening final episode, “Inside the Mind of Jake Paul,” published on October 18, Dawson sat down with Paul and interviewed him about his past controversies.

“The Mind of Jake Paul,” directed and created by Dawson and his cameraman, Andrew Siwicki, racked up over 120 million views and left the world of Youtube wanting more.
