On August 15th, Netflix released a new Original Movie titled To All The Boys I Loved Before. Lara Jean is a hopeless romantic and imagines herself in crazy situations.
Lara Jean’s recent crush is her neighbor Josh, played by Israel Broussard, who is dating Lara Jean’s older sister, Margot. One day while at school, Lara Jean is confronted by one of her old crushes, Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo.
Peter asks to speak with Lara Jean about the letter causing her to be confused and eventually faint. Peter wakes her up and Lara then sees Josh walking towards her, letter in hand. In an impulse she quickly kisses Peter to avoid talking to Josh.
Lara arrives home to find the box of letters missing and this makes her go ballistic. Being that she is neighbors with Josh, she proceeds to go to her safe haven which is the corner cafe. She runs into Peter who further questions her actions.
Lara Jean attempts to go home on her bike, but Peter offers her a ride. He then proposes a plan to pretend to be Lara Jeans boyfriend in order to convince Josh that Lara doesn't like him and to make Gen jealous. She first is reluctant, but then accepts the proposal and they create several rules for their scheme.
The rest of the movie portrays the events that happen while Peter and Lara are “dating” and the crazy chaos that awaits them. The movie is based off Jenny Han’s three part book series. To All the Boys I loved Before is a New York Times Best seller with a big following.
Many fans of the book were excited to see their favorite book series turn into a netflix original. Most of them enjoyed the movie, but were a little upset about Peter’s and Lara’s first kiss.
Being that in the book it was described as more quirky and romantic, rather than the movie where it was an impulse decision. Most fans still loved the movie and look forward to Netflix creating the rest of the series.
The weekend of the movie’s opening was great and people went crazy over it on Twitter. They were head over heels over the cast and created fan art, video edits, and were happy to have an Asian actress as the main protagonist.
Many members of the cast gained a recent following in their social media. For example, Noah Centineo gained about 1 million followers on his instagram in a day. Lara Condor has also gained a big following. Overall, To All the Boys I Loved Before is an amazing teen romantic comedy that brought attention to Asians in the film industry.
